Playground Panic

Spectrum Next Retro Game, Boriel/NextBuild Studio

Playground Panic is (obviously) a first-attempt at a Spectrum Next game, on the Spectrum Next. It’s the kind of thing that could probably have been made to work on a 48K Spectrum back in the day, by a skilled developer, but here we are.
I need the extra MHz to make up for my programming shortcomings, basically.

PP (from here on in) is written using Next Build Studio – a fiendishly clever mash-up of VS Code, Boriel’s Basic Compiler, some Python, an inordinate amount of clever libraries, examples and editor tools, and the magic of ’em00k’.

It’s in Github, because of course it is, and it should be released late spring 2027 – after a 2-year hiatus!
As we approach the release date, an updated trailer will arrive here, plus some links. It’ll probably go on itch.io too, because that’s where a lot of SpecNext software goes.

In the meantime, here’s a really old trailer.
